Developer Playground Games has confirmed that we will finally be getting our hands on the long-awaited rebooted Fable game in Autumn 2026.

The news was provided, as expected, in 2026’s Xbox Developer Direct, where we were given the most detailed preview yet, including more gameplay filled with stunning visuals.

What features have been confirmed?

The presentation gave us plenty of information on what features will be included.

Firstly, it has been confirmed that you will be able to customise your own character, with multiple builds to choose from. You can also choose your hairstyle, tattoos, scars and the skin tone you want to be, allowing us more freedom than ever to create the hero you desire.

Just like in the original trilogy, you have the freedom to utilize the fighting style you prefer. This is due to the gameplay’s ability to seamlessly transition between melee, ranged weapons, and your magical abilities.

We were also provided with some news on what enemies we will be expected to deal with as we explore Albion. There will be some returning opponents, but also new enemies, with the reveal showing a giant, fire breathing Chicken named the Cockatrice.

Playground has kept Fable being “a game within a game”

Playground added that it wanted to be “faithful to the spirit of the Lionhead trilogy.” With that, it has confirmed that you can still do the things that made the series “a game within a game.” These include things like getting a job, buying a house, getting married, and having children.

One of the more impressive features is the way the developers have utilised NPCs. There are more than 1,000 unique characters in Albion, each with different names, jobs, personalities, and routines.

Even better, you can talk with every single one of them. Every action you take alters someone’s opinion of you, with each individual having a differing opinion on what you do. This is due to the game’s morality system and Playground’s understanding that each human will find some things acceptable, and other people will not.

Every choice matters

Your player’s reputation will be shaped by the choices you make, and Playground has stated that there will be plenty of decisions for you to consider.

According to the developers, you will make “big choices, small choices, and choices that actually change the landscape of Albion.”

What platforms is Fable on?

Fable will be available on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game will also be available on Game Pass Ultimate from day 1.
