It was a pretty rough 2025 for Xbox, with layoffs aplenty, console sales slumping, the cancellation of the Perfect Dark reboot, and its Activision Blizzard crown jewel, Call of Duty, not exactly pulling in the numbers you’d expect.

2026 could be a make-or-break year for the Series console generation, with at least a couple of flagship franchises launching titles.

Fable and Forza are two of these, and both are being shown at the January Developer_Direct for the company.

Playground Games are showing off a whole lot of gameplay at Xbox’s Developer_Direct

After getting the GTA 6 treatment of delays, the reimagining of Fable is a game that both fans of the franchise and newcomers alike are seriously looking forward to. We were treated to a snippet of pre-alpha gameplay back in February 2025, but it appears that we’ll be getting a deeper look at 2026’s Developer_Direct.

According to the official Xbox Wire blog post for the event, it will be our “first extended look at Fable” where “the Playground team will unveil the magic and mischief that awaits players in this fresh new beginning for the franchise, including a first look at some stunning new gameplay.”

Hopefully, what this means is that we get a true, full look at the refreshed nooks and crannies of Albion, some character conversations, maybe some fights, whether that be with swords or magic, and of course, more chicken kicking.

Playground Games will also be showing off Forza Horizon 6, where you’ll be taken to Japan for both rural and urban racing. You know you’ll be getting some gorgeous vistas when it comes to Forza, so hopefully we’ll get another look at Mt. Fuji in all its glory.

Also, while we’re sure you’ll be wanting to finish first in your competitions, it’ll be almost rude if you don’t try and re-enact some Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift moments.

Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation makes an appearance

Alongside Playground Games’ showcase, Game Freak of Pokémon development fame, will be delving deeper into new action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation.

We’ll be getting our first details on how the protagonist works in conjunction with her canine companion. Set in post-apocalyptic Japan, it certainly looks a little different to that of Forza Horizon 6, but beautiful all the same.
