Now that the Mega Dimension DLC has arrived for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, a bunch of new content, and even Pokemon, have been made available.

The Hoenn starters can now be encountered as you make your way through the expansion, and yes, they do have Mega Evolutions to take advantage of.

You will need Mega Stones for this, though, otherwise you’ll be stuck with regular old versions of Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert like all those average Trainers out there.

How to get the Hoenn starter Mega Stones in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

If you’ve managed to locate Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC, you’ll want to secure their Mega Stones in order to boost their abilities even more.

However, instead of finding them out on your travels in Lumiose City, buying them from a vendor, or even being given to you from a Mystery Gift, you’ll have to earn them.

The way you do this is via Ranked Battles, and you’ll need to elevate yourself to a specific Rank to be provided with the aforementioned Mega Stones as a Promotional Reward.

What’s frustrating is that each Stone is tied to a different Ranked Battles Season. Sceptile’s will be from Season 5, Swampert’s from Season 6, and Blaziken’s from Season 7, meaning you’ll have to dip into the game over a long period of time to acquire them all.

Earning Mega Stones from Ranked Battles isn’t a new mechanic since this is how you could earn Chesnaughtite to Mega Evolve Chesnaught in Season 3, but the fact that it’s spread across multiple instead of a single period might be a turn off for some.

Interestingly, this is open to anyone who partakes in Ranked Battles, not just those who own and play the DLC. So, if you’re on the fence about purchasing the new content, you may think otherwise after Season 7 rolls around and you’ve netted those all-important Mega Stones.

In the meantime, you might as well add a free Alpha Charizard to your collection and fire off some Solar Beams in protest.
