Ah, The Elder Scrolls 6…announced back in 2018, much to everyone’s delight, after so many core memories made in Skyrim, and all of the previous Elder Scrolls titles before it.

At the time of writing, this means it has been almost 8 years since that reveal, and Todd Howard has said that it’s “still a long way off.”

Yes, you heard that right, The Elder Scrolls 6 isn’t exactly around the corner, but Howard is insisting he is working on it “everyday.”

Hundreds are still working on the Fallout franchise

In a recent interview with GQ, Howard was questioned on what Bethesda are up to as we get to the tenth birthday of Fallout 4.

There are apparently “hundreds of people” working on both Fallout 76 and “other things” in that universe, but the vast majority of employees are all in on The Elder Scrolls 6.

The team “needed a creative reset” after the previous Elder Scrolls titles, hence the long wait. Howard also likes “to have a break between them,” which may lead to a better game, while also allowing for the audience to have a little breather between sequels.

The Elder Scrolls 6 might be shadow-dropped

With all this being said, Howard has also alluded to the fact that The Elder Scrolls 6 will, in fact, be Bethesda’s next fully fledged release.

It’s pretty heavily rumored that the Fallout 3 remaster will be on its way soon, but akin to that of the revamped Oblivion that launched in April, this is a ‘side’ project that involves pulling resources from the likes of Virtuous.

What’s more, Howard stated that The Elder Scrolls 6 was playtested for three hours by a Make-A-Wish group after making a sizable donation to get a character in the game made in someone’s honor.

After this, he went on to say that “one day, the game will just appear,” and the shadow-dropping of Oblivion: Remastered “was a test run.”

Whether this is just marketing spiel remains to be seen, but with the hype already there for Elder Scrolls, there’s no saying Bethesda couldn’t just pull a fast one and deliver us the next installment without warning.
