Pokemon Pokopia’s main story length might be disappointing for some, but we’re not worried
Pokemon Pokopia is shaping up to be the Animal Crossing/Viva Piñata mashup Pokemon game of your cozy dreams. It’s one of those titles that you boot up for 20 minutes, and then suddenly it’s 1 AM as you tend to your island with Pokemon helpers.
In a recent interview, chief director Takuto Edagawa revealed more about the game including how long a typical playthrough is going to take.
For some it will be perfect, others might be a little disappointed…
How long is Pokemon Pokopia?
Edagawa stated that you’re looking at an estimate of between 20-40 hours to complete Pokopia, but it isn’t a neat, clear-cut situation.
He describes 20–40 hours as an average because it’ll vary wildly based on how you play, whether you focus on the main requests, get distracted decorating, or spend half your life chasing the perfect garden layout.
This figure could increase based on if you’ve touched a game of this ilk before, but we’ll know more when the release date rolls around.
However, if you’re looking at how long to beat Pokopia and want more, you shouldn’t be phased by the number. Edagawa says the main motivation of the game is “typically not to go to the end roll [credits],” and that there are “more things to experience” afterwards.
That’s very Animal Crossing-coded because the story might give you structure, but the real grind is what you do once you’ve done what the game has pointed you in the direction of. After the credits do roll, what you have created isn’t going to magically go away, and you can get to expanding, customizing, or just living in it.
For those lucky enough to be at EUIC in London (Feb 13–15), you will get a taste for how deep the systems go with the demo, but if the previews are anything to go by, it could be one of Pokemon’s best spin-offs to date.
