Path of Exile Trading Site is a Mess
Path of Exile’s Trading Site has been a hot mess, and GGG does not seem to want to improve it.
One of the most prolific activities in Path of Exile is trading. Many forms of progression come from players exchanging PoE currencies with others for gear and other orbs. Previously, most gamers used the third-party site poe.trade, which ended its service on October 2022. Since then, the leading platform where players can barter has been GGG’s trading site for Path of Exile. Unfortunately, the whole website is a hot mess filled with bugs and glitches that will make anyone furious.
Path of Exile Trading Site
Many players are constantly irked by the problems they encounter while interacting with the Path of Exile’s official trading site. The website is riddled with many issues, bugs, and other ineffective features that would kill the spirit of many users. Despite PoE trading being one of the most critical activities in the game, GGG does not put that much effort into quality-of-life improvements to their platform.
Many players have taken their frustrations to Reddit and the official forum to air out their frustrations about the current state of trading. One of the main grips of users is how the site continuously and constantly crashes at any given time. Trade enjoyers have reported being stuck on a reloading loop of the site or could not even load the platform itself. This domain is the only functioning trading site for Path of Exile, and it only works half the time, essentially hampers an essential activity in the game.
Some players have reported how the site ineffectively showcases items for trade. Currently, users can whisper to up to 40 people to request an exchange. However, the website must delist items for several hours even though the item has already been traded off. People have complained about being bombarded with hundreds of trade requests even though their offers are no longer available.
Aside from the listers, those who are looking for specific items are also hindered by this listing issue. Many users have been complaining about whispering to particular individuals for offers that are shown to be available only to find out that said wares were already traded off hours ago. On top of this, players can only whisper a limited number of times, which means gamers will have a more challenging time looking for a seller.
Why GGG’s Trading Site is a Mess
Many players wonder why GGG’s only trading site is inefficient, considering that most PoE gamers engage in this activity. At some point, Chris Wilson revealed that the studio had only allocated one person to the development and upkeep of the domain. It is understandable for a single developer to keep everything running and constantly add QoL improvements simultaneously. It is improbable that they will add more people to the team since Grinding Gear does not want a trading site.
GGG, notably Chris Wilson, disliked the idea of a trade site as they want players to use the in-game trade chat more. The studio needs to put more time and resources into improving its site. Regarding Grinding Gears, the domain is working as intended, and they do not have any incentives to improve it further.
What Happened to the Other Trading Sites
While the Path of Exile Official Trading Site has been available for quite some time now, other websites have appeared in previous years. The most notable ones are poe.trade and poeapp.com, both defunct as of writing. These domains were used more than the official site before they went offline.
Many players were saddened by the news when poe.trade announced its end of service on October 2022. However, many fans still need to learn why the developers decided to shut down. The main reason why poe.trade had to shut down due to a change in the game’s API because of some alterations from GGG. This was the same reason poeapp.com ended its services years prior. Essentially, GGG has caused the demise of these two beloved third-party apps, so people will focus on using their official sites.
Path of Exile Trading Improvements
Given their stand on the matter, it is hard to say whether GGG will improve the quality of life of their official trading site. Their lack of communication and complete radio silence over the topic does not bode well for players eager to trade PoE currency. Fans can only hope that the studio will concede to the users’ demand for upgrades to the site.
