Multiple reports claim that Square Enix is bringing the Kingdom Hearts trilogy to the Switch 2.

The news comes from two prominent Nintendo insiders, Nash Weedle and Attack the Backlog, with the release looking like it will be announced at the next Nintendo Direct event.

The reports only add more news to what has been a very busy month for the Japanese developer, after the announcement of the latest instalment in the Life is Strange series

If you’re not familiar with the Kingdom Hearts series, it features characters from both the Square Enix and Disney universes. The trilogy’s protagonist is a boy named Sora who wields a magical weapon called the Keyblade, which can be both a key and a sword, to fight darkness. The three main games follow his journey to save the universe alongside his friends Riku and Kairi, as well as Disney characters Donald Duck and Goofy.

Do Switch 2 players really need the Kingdom Hearts Trilogy?

Though a welcome addition to the Switch 2 library, fans will probably not be as hyped with the news. This is because fans of the trilogy will probably have already played the series recently, as it was released on the original Switch back in 2022.

However, this could be a great way to get back into the series ahead of the release of Kingdom Hearts 4, which may or may not be coming out in 2026.

Will any more Kingdom Hearts games come to the Switch 2 in the future?

Though there are 14 instalments in the series, the only games that have been released onto Switch consoles so far are the numbered editions.

With there being no murmurs regarding the releases of other titles in the franchise, we are pretty certain at this time that it will only be the numbered titles available on the Switch 2.
