The brand new Sailing skill has docked in OSRS, with everyone trying to race to level 99 to reacquire those Max Capes, and leapfrog places up the leaderboards.

Like any new content added to OSRS, you need to do a little digging on how to begin your adventure, and Sailing is no different.

As you might expect, you’ll be heading to a Port to begin, but there is a quest that needs to be wrapped up before you’re able to sail solo.

How to start Sailing in OSRS

If you want to head out onto the pixelated high seas in Old School Runescape, you’ll need to complete an initial quest to get the ball rolling.

This is the Pandemonium quest and is accessed by talking to Will and Anne on the docks of Port Sarim. It will run you through the basics of the brand new skill including how to actually sail, dock, and learn about other integral Sailing items.

Once you’ve got the initial teachings out of the way, you’ll be given a measly Raft which does allow you to set sail but you’ll want to replace it with something a little more robust by getting to level 15, thus unlocking the Skiff.

To get onto the waters right away, simply locate the gangplank which is found on the east dock of The Pandemonium island. It’s not going to be very hard to miss since they’ll likely be a bunch of eager captains wanting to do the exact same thing.

There are plenty of other gangplanks around the map in places like Land’s End, Musa Point, or Brimhaven, but these require leveling. The Pandemonium and Port Sarim are your only options right out of the gate at level 1.

Now you can do some Sea Charting and Courier Tasks to start elevating your Sailing skill, and maybe you’ll be able to take on some Krakens in no time!
