mewgenics save scum

Cheating in games is a tale as old as time, and if you’re like me, you used to jot any cheat codes down on a piece of paper and slot them into the game case for safekeeping. Obviously, we’ve got improved technology these days, and most cheats are now done through a bit of software.

Save scumming, though, is a technique that is still going strong, and you can do it in the newly released tactical cat fighter Mewgenics, albeit with some pretty serious consequences if you’re a repeat offender.

What happens when you save scum in Mewgenics?

If you dabbled in a bit of Animal Crossing, you might have heard of Mr. Ressetti, a mole that jump scares you when you don’t save your game correctly.

Now, Mewgenics shares this Mr. Ressetti figure in the form of Steven, who will throw a load of insults at you if you try to save and quit in combat, allowing you to start the fight again from a fresh start.

If you do this a couple of times, the threats get more real, with the eventual outcome being that Steven will place the Deja Vu ability on one of your cats.

This Deja Vu ability gives a cat in your possession a 10% chance to cancel actions in a battle, which could be pretty disastrous at key moments.

Now, if you save scum a third time, all of your cats will now have this Deja Vu, meaning it’s pretty likely you’ve messed up your run unless you want a harder challenge, that is.

And finally, if you weren’t deterred by all of the warnings and punishments so far, a fourth save scum will make you relinquish control of your cats in battle, with Steven taking over, essentially turning the game into an auto battler.

mewgenics save scum easter egg

Steven’s choices in battle are certainly an acquired taste, so don’t expect you to get very far in a playthrough. You might make it past the first and second fights if you’re lucky, but anything harder and you’ll be starting all over again.

Since Mewgenics is a little wacky to begin with, this easter egg fits right into the theme. There are plenty of secrets to uncover, not to mention the hundreds of voice cameos, so mess around with what you can and you might find something out that no one else has discovered yet.
