final fantasy 7 pc upgrade

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 PC players will be treated to a free upgrade of the game, with the original release being delisted and no longer available to be purchased going forward.

In a message on Steam, the developers did not announce a release date, but did confirm that the two versions will not work together. This means that you will be starting all over again on the new version if you want to experience this over the previous release.

Should you not want to lose any progress you made, you can just carry on playing the version you have played over the years, which will cannot be taken from you.

Why is this Final Fantasy 7 remake being made

With the game being out for 13 years, fans of the series may be shocked to see an upgrade coming. The reason behind it is that the PC version came with a handful of issues that the recent console releases of the game haven’t seen.

What features will be added?

While Square Enix hasn’t given us specifics on how this new version of Final Fantasy 7 is different from the current one on PC, all the signs point towards this new edition of the game having the same features as the one on consoles.

The console versions have features that include fast-forward, invincibility, and the option to avoid combat encounters altogether. If this is the case, this would make all of the Final Fantasy 7 games across the variety of platforms in parity with one another for the first time.

When will the remake be released on PC?

As stated before, it has not been confirmed yet. However, with Square Enix’s Life is Strange: Reunion set to be released on the 26th March, we can assume that the developers are using the vast majority of their resources on the release of the next instalment of their storied franchise. This means we should expect the release soon, but potentially after Life is Strange.
