Crimson Desert is shaping up to potentially be one of the biggest games of 2026 thanks to its promise of almost umpteen things to do out in the extremely large open world.

With a lot of games today opting for a PvPvE scenario, many are wondering if this behemoth shares this fate or whether it will be a single-player only title, allowing them to soak up the atmosphere instead of being blindsided by another player-controlled adventurer.

Let’s get into the details on whether Crimson Desert is a multiplayer title.

Does Crimson Desert have multiplayer?

Development started a long time ago on Crimson Desert, and due to Pearl Abyss’ roots in MMORPGs with the Black Desert franchise, there was an understanding that this game would follow suit.

Now, though, after speculation that Crimson Desert had multiplayer via an MMO-like system, or even was designed with a co-op function, this is not the case.

Crimson Desert is a single-player only title, akin to the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where you can truly enjoy the world at your own pace as Kliff, taking on a plethora of enemies and quests as you go.

While you might be a little disappointed you can’t share your experience with anyone, it’s probably best all around for what the developers want to achieve with the game.

Will Powers, PR Director at Pearl Abyss, stated that there are “tons of systems in the game” to enjoy, whether that be fishing, crafting, house building, and much, much more. Throwing PvP, for example, into that mix just doesn’t particularly work and would cause serious frustration to those who just want a peaceful life.

Yes, they could have gone down the FromSoftware route of summoning players in for a battle or to help out with a boss fight, but the tone is very much Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom rather than Elden Ring.
