Innervation Bros, who you may or may not be aware of from the Zelda: Lost In Time fan film, have just revealed the first game in the Cryptic Tales anthology series. Crossroads and, as you can tell from the trailer below, it looks suitably creepy. After all, Halloween isn’t really that far off at this point in the year.

Cryptic Tales – Crossroads is billed as a “cinematic adventure inspired by urban legends, with a psychological-but-weirdly-cozy atmosphere.” Cozy horror? Sounds interesting. Now, I am a fan of games set in the 80s and 90s, so the fact that this one is set before the turn of the Millennium is appealing.

The blurb is also suitably intriguing: “Jon’s dreams were filled with music and a love life he once had. Now they’ve curdled into nightmares, weaving between memories and unknown realms. Set in the ’90s, this immersive first-person psychological walking simulator follows Jon as he realizes… something is stalking him.

Jon’s old work pager keeps notifying him of new messages. Who is sending them? What do they want? And can he trust any of them? Hoping to get to the bottom of it, Jon explores his surroundings to uncover who’s behind it.”

So far, we only have the inevitable Coming Soon on its Steam page, where you can wishlist the game, but we are promised a release of this first in the series before the turn of the year. You can keep a further eye out for news right there.

Cryptic Tales – Crossroads features:

  • Immersive and unsettling storytelling.
  • Atmospheric environments.
  • High quality graphics and audio.
  • 1990’s nostalgic aesthetic.
  • Cozy apartment life and simulation elements.
  • Receive pager messages from npcs.
