The Good
- Excellent variety of locales with pleasing art design
- relatively non-linear structure allows for a fair bit of player freedom
- strong sense of brooding, dreamlike atmosphere.
The Bad
- Lack of direction leads to tedious backtracking
- puzzles are mediocre at best
- enemy encounters are much too easy to feel like a threat
- some glitches hinder gameplay.

Uneven
A near-equal balance of good and bad that can make a game either fall disappointingly short of its evident potential or be mildly entertaining despite its many failings.
Too unremarkable to share in its predecessor’s cult status and too clunky to rival its modern competition, Yume Nikki – Dream Diary is a reverential yet surprisingly unfaithful reimagining of its 2004 namesake.
