The adventure is set starting from 1308 in the county of Luxembourg, when the Holy Roman Empire was under the control of the Habsburg family and in particular of Albert 1st. While trying to reconquer Thuringia, a region of Germany, he was assassinated on May 1, 1308, at the age of 53 by his nephew, John the Parricide, from whom he had unjustly stolen the inheritance. The electoral princes are then in charge of designating the new emperor, for this, they meet at the Frankfurt palace, the Romerhaus, to preside over the meeting.
