Steam Next Fest has come to an end, but some of the upcoming games on show have left a lasting impression. Dice A Million is one of many indie projects to make waves during the event because of its take on the roguelike genre, which is similar to that of Balatro.

Dice A Million is a roguelike deckbuilder about rolling dice to try and get to a million points. You create your bag of dice from a whole host of options that grant you unique bonuses, allowing you to roll some vast combinations. Along the way, you’ll uncover secrets as you make your way through the hundreds of unlocks Dice A Million features.

What is Dice A Million?

To kick off the Dice A Million demo, you will be asked to select up to five dice from your hand and try to get the objective in three rolls. If you go over the target number, you keep the rest of your points after the objective figure is deducted. Simply click the dice on the top-left of your screen, and when you’re happy with your selection, press the roll button. The virtual hand is your selectable class, and it will then shake the dice and throw out a random combination.

Once you’ve completed an objective, you can choose one of three rewards that you will be presented with. Ultimately, these are items you can use to help you hit increasingly difficult numerical objectives, which is the basis of Dice A Million gameplay. The rewards can be anything from a Casino Die that changes the face of every other die to its highest value if the Casino Die’s face is a one, to a bottle cap that acts as a heads or tails between a one or two.

After you’ve chosen a reward, you can go to the shop, where you can spend your points on new dice and other items, such as Enchanted Dice Booster Packs that allow you to choose from one of three powerful enchanted dice. You can even buy cards that grant one-time use effects, so you must use those wisely. Any points that aren’t used will be carried over to the next round.

As you progress through objectives, you will get the opportunity to purchase rings that give passive boosts that are constantly active. The full game will have over 80 unique rings for further customization to your Dice A Million roguelike build. Your virtual hand will even wear the rings you acquire, so you can even see how powerful you’re becoming.

When is Dice A Million coming out?

In a Dice A Million announcement made back in September, it was revealed that the game will release in January 2026. A specific launch date is yet to be penciled in, but the full game is expected to have a lot more dice, rings, and, therefore, more synergies. The full experience will offer difficulty levels and secrets to unlock. Perhaps we will learn about how we got to the dice rolling facility in the first place and what the mysterious door is that is referenced in the demo.

Who’s developing Dice A Million?

The Dice A Million developer has spent countless nights as a solo developer, gearing up to release their first game. The project is backed by publisher 2 Left Thumbs, which has published games belonging to a variety of genres, from platformers to narrative-focused titles, action experiences, and more.

How does Dice A Million compare to other roguelike deck builders?

Dice A Million features are similar to those of Balatro. They’re both roguelike deckbuilders that have numerous synergies that can turn Lady Luck in your favor and bring about powerful combinations. Rather than using cards and Poker-inspired gameplay, Dice A Million is all about rolling dice to reach a given total in a certain number of rolls. Although the roll of a dice is random, the range of upgrades you can add to your arsenal can help you build the best set of dice to reach that all-important final target of one million points.

How long is the Dice A Million demo?

Considering the fact that there’s only a demo available to play, it does feature quite a lot of content already. There are three acts to get through (also known as faces) and 69 dice to experiment with. The final roll of the dice at the very end of the third face requires you to roll a million in a single roll. The number of times you try and fail will play a factor in how long it takes to beat the Dice A Million demo. Even when you make it to the end of the demo, the sheer number of items available to experiment with warrants further playthroughs, as many combinations of dice, cards, stamps, and rings can take you all the way to a million.
